Nursing Care

Nursing care provides all the day-to-day care that you would expect from any care home, but the care is supervised by registered nurses who are on duty all day and all night. Another benefit is that nursing staff are trained to recognise symptoms and changes in a person’s condition, so are better qualified to decide when to call a doctor or other health professional.
Individuals who have an illness or medical condition requiring frequent medical attention will be better off in a nursing home, where nursing care is available 24 hours a day and interventions can be carried out at convenient times. Our nursing care teams are fully qualified and have the specialist expertise required to care for residents’ varying medical needs and requirements. People who come to us may be living with conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis or Motor Neurone Disease; others may have suffered a brain injury as a result of an accident, or require ventilator care.
As a care home with nursing we are equipped with specialist beds and a range of equipment for moving and handling people, as such are able to care for individuals with severe mobility difficulties or who are unable to get out of bed independently.

Residential Care

Residential care provides a safe, warm and friendly accommodation with supervision or the availability from staff 24 hours a day, meals are provided and assistance and support can be provided with simple tasks like having a bath, washing or dressing; or applying your creams. Cleaning and laundry is also provided as are activities for all residents to enjoy.

Dementia Care

We provide dementia care in our care home and are working closely with other health care professionals to develop our knowledge and skills and ensure we are as dementia friendly as possible. We understand the specific challenges faced by people living with dementia – our teams are able to provide professional and compassionate support for both our residents and their loved ones.

Palliative or End of Life Care

Palliative (to cloak) means care for an individual who has been diagnosed/is living with a terminal illness, one which cannot be cured. It focuses on relieving any symptoms such as pain or nausea with the aim of optimizing quality of life; for us at the Garth it’s about putting life into days not days into life.

For the team here this care (palliative and EOL) is paramount, we have one chance to get it right and we will strive to achieve this 100% of the time. Our end of life care has been recognised by the Gold Standards framework, a nationally recognised training and accreditation programme. Our palliative and end of life care is outstanding and includes care and support to family and friends.
